How to use monks’ spiritual cultivation —— meditation as a method to design engagement and create a visual metaphor to influence audience cognition process even promote their thinking of life?
I have been spent about a month handwriting ‘Prajnaparamita Sutra’ for 108 times. After finish, I melt the Sutra into the ocean.
Based on the Buddhist concept, my understanding of born and death is the arise and disappear of self-awareness and desire.
The process of handwriting the Sutra carries people’s desire and self- consciousness. The act is a kind of meditation, which is the standard way of practice in Buddhism. The desire is regarded as the root of the loop in Buddhism, and the reason why people have desires is because of self-consciousness.
Thus, the transcribing act reflects my concept of live.
The ocean as a place carries the memory of all the residents, including me living in this city. The ocean means a lot to me. Besides, many ways of praying in oriental context are realized by returning the items of prayer to the sea. I use the method of melting ‘Prajnaparamita Sutra’ to realize the exile and return of consciousness and desire.
From writing to melt the ‘Prajnaparamita Sutra’, I would like to demonstrate the loop from born to death by this process. The process is like a symbol of the unbreakable loop.
