ENGEDENKEN - FRAGMENTED HISTORY

Walter Benjamin believes the essential difference between ‘remembrance’ and ‘memory’ is about the continuum of the history. It blasts open the continuum of history. The cracked and fragmented feature of remembrance reminds me of mirror, a broken mirror as a carrier which can show the process of remembrance. This is the way how we look back the history.

This video cut the recognized past events into pieces and integrate these pieces using the Montage technique. Project the light to the mirror, the mirror reflects the dreamlike effect on the wall, and the sound is selected to try to pull the audience into a sleepy history, looking for a disorderly "nostalgia". About the content, the festival is a good carrier to show how individuals and groups think about Rngedenken. Festivals allow us to overturn old memories and rebuild new memories constantly.
